Academic and Artistic Pursuits
Early Years and InfluencesAlexey Boshenko was born on March 24, 1958, in Kyiv, Ukraine, into a family of philosophers. His mother taught ethics, while his father specialized in the dialectical theory of development. Surrounded by philosophers and scholars, Alexey developed a passion for aesthetics at an early age.
Academic Education and Philosophical Explorations
In 1975, Boshenko enrolled in the philosophy faculty at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. As a promising student, he actively participated in the scientific student society. After graduating in 1980, he became a research intern in dialectical materialism at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.
Teaching and Research
From 1985 to 1987, Boshenko taught philosophy at the Kyiv Conservatory. Concurrently, he pursued an advanced degree at Kyiv Engineering and Construction Institute, where he defended his PhD thesis in 1988. His research focused on the historical and cultural foundations of the category of becoming.
Artistic and Cultural Contributions
Boshenko's interests extended beyond philosophy. He was a skilled musician who played several instruments and studied music theory. He also taught a special course on aesthetics at Taras Shevchenko National University.
Institute of Contemporary Art
In 1992, Boshenko became a doctoral candidate and later a docent at Kyiv State Technical University of Construction and Architecture. In 2005, he joined the Institute of Contemporary Art of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine as a leading researcher. He was appointed head of the aesthetics and culturology department in 2010.
Published Works and Legacy
At the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boshenko published his most significant works, continuing the tradition of transcendental aesthetics. His wife, Lyubov Ovdiyenko, is a fellow philosopher in Kyiv. Boshenko is survived by two children, Yuliya and Alexey. He is buried at Baikove Cemetery in Kyiv.
