Biography of Alexei Ekimyan
Soviet composer of Armenian descent, Alexei Gurgenovich Ekimyan, was born on May 10, 1927, in Baku. He is known as a composer, author of many lyrical and highly melodic songs that remain popular to this day. Ekimyan is likely the only composer in the world who simultaneously held a high-ranking position in law enforcement. He was a Major General of the police, Deputy Chief of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs for the Moscow Region, and headed the criminal investigation department. Despite his busy schedule with his main job, he found time and inspiration to create musical masterpieces. Modest in his personal life, Alexei Gurgenovich did not like to publicize his compositional skills. During a concert in honor of Police Day at the Column Hall in Moscow, when one of his songs was performed, the then Minister was extremely surprised to learn that the famous composer and the head of the Moscow Regional Criminal Investigation Department were the same person. Of course, Ekimyan is better known to the world as a composer-songwriter, whose creativity is timeless. His songs are still loved by genuine art connoisseurs today.
