Early Life and Military Service
Alexei Fyodorovich Golovlyov was born in 1903 into a Russian craftsman's family in the village of Gorodskaya Skala in the Kerch region. Orphaned at a young age, he was raised in an orphanage and later worked as a fisherman and laborer. As the Soviet Union emerged, he embraced revolutionary ideals and became a chairman of a farm workers' committee. In 1925, he was drafted into the Red Army, where he developed into a professional military political worker. He graduated from a military-political school in 1931.
Call to the Front and Battlefield Heroism
In December 1942, Golovlyov was deployed to the front after serving as Chief of the House of Command Staff at the Amur Flotilla and Deputy Commander of the Naval Hospital in Khabarovsk. In 1943, he completed officer training in Gagra and was promoted to the rank of captain. He was appointed party organizer of the 384th Independent Marine Battalion of the Odessa Naval Base of the Black Sea Fleet.
Golovlyov fought valiantly in the liberation of the city of Osipえんko, earning the Order of the Red Star for his courage and bravery. He also participated in battles on the Kinburn Spit and the liberation of the Kherson Oblast towns of Aleksandrovka, Bogoyavlenskoye (now Oktyabrsky), and Shiroka Balka.
The Immortalized Hero
In the second half of March 1944, Golovlyov joined a landing group commanded by Senior Lieutenant Konstantin Fyodorovich Olshansky. Their mission was to facilitate a frontal assault by Soviet troops in the liberation of the city of Nikolaev, as part of the Odessa operation. After landing at the Nikolaev Sea Port, the unit repelled 18 enemy attacks over two days, killing approximately 700 German soldiers. In these fierce battles, almost all of the paratroopers, including Captain Golovlyov, perished.
For his extraordinary bravery and heroism, Captain Alexei Fyodorovich Golovlyov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on April 20, 1945.
