Early Life and Military Career
Born in 1911 to a peasant family, Alexander Nikolayevich Kukharenko joined the Red Army in 1929. He became a member of the Communist Party in 1938.
World War II and Valorous Service
Kukharenko distinguished himself in the Soviet-Finnish War, earning the Order of the Red Banner. During the Great Patriotic War, he served with the 72nd Mixed Aviation Regiment and later the 2nd Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, commanded by twice Hero of the Soviet Union Boris F. Safonov.
Awards and Recognition
Throughout the war, Kukharenko received five Orders of the Red Banner. In March 1942, he was one of four Soviet naval pilots awarded the British Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) by Lieutenant General McMorland.
Post-War Service and Retirement
After the war, Kukharenko continued his military service in Estonia and Latvia. Upon his retirement in the 1950s, he settled in Riga, where he worked in a furniture factory.
