Early Life and Education
Andrii Makiev was born on November 25, 1975, in Kyiv, Ukraine. He graduated from the Institute of International Relations at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Makiev is proficient in English, German, Spanish, French, and Russian languages.
Diplomatic Career
Makiev joined the diplomatic service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. He has served in Ukrainian diplomatic missions in Switzerland and Germany. In 2014, he was appointed Political Director of the Department of Policy and Communication of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Special Representative for Sanctions Policy
In May 2020, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba appointed Makiev as the newly created Special Representative of the MFA for Sanctions Policy. He also held the positions of Ambassador-at-Large for Special Assignments in the Minister's Diplomatic Office and Director of the Ministry's Directorate for Diplomatic Service Development.
Ambassador to Germany
On September 23, 2022, President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Makiev as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Germany.
Family
Makiev is married to Olena Makeieva, who served as Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine from 2015 to 2016. Their daughter, Anastasia, is a student at the University of Strasbourg.
