Life and Early Career

Oleksii Reznikov, born on June 18, 1966, in Lviv, Ukraine, embarked on a military path in 1984, serving in the 64th Guards Motor Rifle Division and the 806th Assault Aviation Regiment. After his military service, he pursued higher education at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, graduating with honors in law in 1991.

Legal Expertise

Reznikov's legal career commenced in 1991, where he co-founded the brokerage firm Galicia Securities. In 1994, he acquired the right to practice law, leading to the establishment of Reznikov, Vlasenko & Partners, which later merged with Magistr & Partners to form Magisters. The firm was recognized with the Chambers Europe Awards in 2009 and 2010. From 2011 to 2014, Reznikov served as the chief legal counsel to Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasiev & Partners. He returned to private practice in 2018 as a partner at Asters Law Firm and specializes in alternative dispute resolution.

Political Ascension

In 2008, Reznikov entered the public sphere as a Kyiv City Council deputy, chairing the commission on law and order. His political trajectory continued in 2014, when he was elected Deputy Mayor and Secretary of the Kyiv City Council. Subsequently, he held notable positions, including Chairman of the Ukrainian Delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Deputy Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Council, and Advisor to the Mayor of Kyiv.

Key Administrative Roles

From 2016 onwards, Reznikov assumed significant administrative responsibilities as Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration, overseeing local self-governance, internal policy, and cultural heritage. He played a pivotal role in organizing the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest and the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final in Kyiv.

Defense Ministry and Beyond

In 2020, Reznikov was appointed Vice Prime Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine. On November 4, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada appointed him as the Minister of Defense of Ukraine. Reznikov's tenure at the Defense Ministry has beenmarked by the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine and the Russian military buildup on its borders.

Social Initiatives and Accolades

Throughout his career, Reznikov has been actively involved in social initiatives. He founded the Oleksii Reznikov Scholarship for gifted law students and served as a member of the Kyiv City Bar Association and the Kyiv City Qualificatiton and Disciplinary Commission for Attorneys. In recognition of his contributions, he has received the Silver Cross of Merit from Poland and the Taurus PT 809 Compact firearm.
