Michael Kühnen: A Leading Figure in German Nationalism

Early Life and Entry into the Nationalist Movement

Michael Kühnen was born into a German nationalist family. From the age of 14, he actively participated in the youth organization of the National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD). In 1977, he was expelled from the Bundeswehr (German Federal Armed Forces) for establishing a right-wing extremist group within the military ranks.

Formation of Neo-Nazi Organizations

On May 8, 1977, Kühnen founded the "SA-Sturm Hamburg," which evolved into the Action Front of National Socialists (ANS) on November 26th of the same year. In 1979, he became a leading member of the Free German Workers' Party (FAP). He also served as deputy chairman of the Hamburg-based conservative "Fourth Party."

Convictions and Incarceration

In 1978, Kühnen received a six-month prison sentence for using Nazi symbols. A year later, he was sentenced to four years in prison for inciting racial hatred and distributing extremist propaganda. During his imprisonment, he wrote and published the book "The Second Revolution."

Later Activities and Death

Upon his early release in 1982, Kühnen evaded police surveillance in Europe but was apprehended in Italy and returned to Germany, where he was imprisoned again. He spent a total of seven and a half years behind bars. In 1986, Kühnen publicly declared his homosexuality, which alienated many of his supporters. In 1989, he was effectively expelled from the FAP.

Undeterred, Kühnen established the organization German Alternative. In 1990, he developed the "Arbeitsplan Ost" (Work Plan East), a program for creating nationalist structures in the former East Germany. He also formed the combat group "Antizionistische Legion." Before his death, Kühnen founded the "Gesinnungsgemeinschaft der Neuen Front" (Community of Like-Minded Individuals of the New Front).

Michael Kühnen died on April 25, 1991, at the age of 35. The cause of his death remains undisclosed by medical examiners.
