Early Life and Education

Alexi Aleksishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. He graduated from Tbilisi State University with a degree in Economics in 1996. Subsequently, he pursued advanced studies at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, USA, completing a Master's degree in International Development Policy with a specialization in Public Finance and Management from 2002 to 2004.

Early Career

Aleksishvili began his career at the Tbilisi Institute of Economic Relations, serving as a Chief Specialist from 1996 to 1999. Concurrently, he held the position of Assistant to the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Zurab Zhvania, from 1999 to 2001.

During this period, Aleksishvili was actively involved in the Association of Young Economists of Georgia, serving as its Chairman from 1994 to 2001.

Political Career

In 2001, Aleksishvili was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance of Georgia. He held this position until 2002, when he became First Deputy Minister. In December 2004, he was promoted to Minister of Economic Development.

Aleksishvili continued the economic reforms initiated by Kakha Bendukidze, focusing on liberal economic principles. From 2005 to 2007, he served as Minister of Finance of Georgia.

United Nations

In 2006, Aleksishvili was elected Chairman of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development. He led the 14th session of the Commission, which focused on energy for sustainable development, climate change, and air pollution.

National Bank of Georgia

On August 30, 2007, Aleksishvili was appointed President of the National Bank of Georgia, the central bank of Georgia. He has held this position to date.

Private Sector Engagements

From 2008 to 2008, Aleksishvili served on the Board of Directors of Kala Capital LLC, an investment holding company. He was instrumental in the establishment of Progress Bank, one of its leading subsidiaries.

Aleksishvili has participated in various regional and international conferences and forums, sharing his expertise in financial risk management, economic development, and policy reforms.

Consulting

Aleksishvili is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Policy and Management Consulting Group (PMCG), a leading regional consulting firm. He oversees the company's strategic operations in Georgia and other CIS countries, focusing on fiscal policy reforms and economic development projects.

Personal Life

Aleksishvili is married with two children.
