In 2007, the politician became Deputy Minister of Interior. The following year, he was appointed as Iran's Minister of Interior. However, during his confirmation hearing in the Iranian parliament, concerns arose regarding his qualifications and his doctoral studies.
Allegations of Forgery and Resignation
Subsequent investigations revealed that the diploma he had presented from Oxford University was forged. In November 2008, the Iranian parliament voted to dismiss him from his ministerial position.
