Early LifeAlice Joyce was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 20, 1890. After her parents divorced, she and her brother lived with their father in Falls Church, Virginia. As a teenager, she moved to New York City to live with her mother and began working as a photo model.
Film Career
In 1910, Joyce made her film debut with Kalem Studios. After the studio merged with the Motion Picture Patents Company, she was sent to the West Coast in 1913 to continue her career in Hollywood. There, Joyce starred in nearly 100 films, including "Mothers in Law" (1926) and "The Squall" (1929).
Transition to Sound
With the advent of sound films, Joyce's career declined. She stopped acting in 1930 and later toured in vaudeville. Joyce married three times, all ending in divorce. She had two daughters from her first two marriages.
Later Years and Legacy
In her later years, Joyce suffered from heart disease and spent time in and out of hospitals. She passed away in Hollywood on October 28, 1955, eight days after her 65th birthday. Alice Joyce is remembered as a popular silent film actress who left a lasting mark on Hollywood's golden age.
