Aliшер Юсупов: A Rising Star in Judo
Aliшер Халимбоевич Юсупов, born on November 27, 1998, in Urgench district of Khorezm region, is an Uzbek judoka who has made a significant mark on the international stage.
Early Career
Yuuspov's journey in judo began in 2017 when he became a member of Uzbekistan's national team. Under the guidance of his coach, Jamshed Khudoyberganov, Yuuspov quickly rose through the ranks. That year, he secured third place at the Asian Junior Championships and finished fifth at the World Junior Championships in the under-100kg weight category.
International Success
Yuuspov's career reached new heights in 2023 with his victory at the Grand Slam tournament in Tashkent. He then went on to win a bronze medal at the World Championships in Doha, defeating Kokoro Kageura of Japan in the bronze medal match. At the 2022 Asian Games in China, Yuuspov once again earned a bronze medal in the over-100kg weight category, triumphing over Hyuga Ota of Japan. He also contributed to Uzbekistan's bronze medal in the mixed team event.
Pre-Olympic Breakthrough
In August 2023, Yuuspov's achievements were recognized with the "Kelajak Bunyodkori" medal in honor of the 32nd anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence. In spring 2024, he solidified his status as a contender at the pre-Olympic World Championships in the United Arab Emirates, where he secured another bronze medal, defeating Andy Granda of Cuba.
Olympic Glory
Yuuspov's crowning moment came at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where he captured the bronze medal in the over-100kg weight category. In a thrilling battle, he skillfully applied the uchi mata (inner thigh throw) to defeat Japanese judoka Tatsuri Saito.
National Honor
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Uzbekistan's Olympic movement and global recognition of the sport, Yuuspov was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Sportsman of the Republic of Uzbekistan" by the President of Uzbekistan in August 2024.
