Birth and Early Life
Alison Redford was born in Kitimat, British Columbia, and spent her childhood in Calgary, Alberta.
Education and Career
Redford graduated from the University of Saskatchewan College of Law in 1988. She began her career as a lawyer and worked as a senior policy advisor to former Prime Minister Joe Clark in the 1980s. From 1988 to 1990, she worked in the office of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.
Political Career
In October 2011, Redford won the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta, becoming the first female Premier of Alberta. She resigned as Premier in March 2014. In July 2015, Redford announced her departure from party politics.
Personal Life
Redford is married to Glen Jermyn, a lawyer with the Department of Justice Canada. The couple has one daughter, Sarah.
