Biography of Allan Scharff
Allan Scharff is a Danish designer and master silverware craftsman, known for his unique and abstract approach to design. His career began at the age of 17 when he joined the company of renowned Danish silverware craftsman, Georg Jensen. Scharff worked there from 1963 to 1967, specializing in the production of deep vessels. During his time at Jensen's company, he earned a certificate of completion for his practice.

After his apprenticeship, Scharff enrolled in the School of Goldsmith Masters at the Danish Institute of Precious Metals. He completed his studies in 1975 and then worked as an independent silverware master until 1978. In 1979, Scharff spent a year working at the Herning Art Museum in Denmark, serving as an advisor and designer. From 1978 to 1987, he also worked as a designer for the company Hans Hansen Silversmithy, where he was responsible for designing jewelry, tableware, and watches. Additionally, Scharff crafted exquisite ceramics and glassware for renowned companies such as Royal Copenhagen Porcelain, Holmegaard Glassworks, and Orrefors Glass Studios.

Scharff's expertise and talent in designing silverware allowed him to take on various challenging projects, including custom orders for hollow objects of different complexities. He received numerous awards throughout his career, including recognition from the World Crafts Council Europe in 1993 and the Bavarian State Prize for Young Designers in 1995. His works have been exhibited worldwide.
In 1976, Scharff became one of the youngest founders of the group "Danish Silversmiths," which consisted of leading silverware craftsmen in Denmark. Their works were in high demand at prestigious exhibitions. Currently, Scharff is working on a collection for the Danish Museum of Decorative Arts in Copenhagen.
Despite their different styles, Scharff and Georg Jensen both drew inspiration from nature. Scharff believes that nature offers a multitude of forms and considers it the most unique educational resource. His works often feature bird-shaped forms and other natural elements. It is remarkable how both Scharff and Jensen, starting from the same source of inspiration, utilized their distinct visions to showcase their creative genius from two completely different angles.
