Early Career and National Team SuccessÁlvaro Gutiérrez began his professional career at Uruguayan club Bella Vista, where he won the national championship in 1990.
In 1992, he joined Nacional and led them to another Uruguayan league title.
Gutiérrez debuted for the Uruguayan national team in 1991 and played in 38 matches, including the victorious 1995 Copa América campaign.
European Odyssey
In 1995, Gutiérrez signed with Spanish club Real Valladolid and remained there until 1998.
He then moved to Rayo Vallecano for one season before returning to Bella Vista.
Gutiérrez had a brief stint at Montevideo's Liverpool in 2000.
Return to Spain and RetirementIn 2000, Gutiérrez rejoined Spain, this time with Sporting Gijón, where he ended his playing career.
