Biography of Alvin Ailey
Alvin Ailey was born in 1931 in a Baptist family in Texas, USA. Unfortunately, his parents divorced when he was only 2 years old. At the age of 11, he and his mother moved to Los Angeles. Ailey started attending the school of renowned choreographer Lester Horton. Initially, he didn't believe that dance could truly interest him, but he continued to pursue it. Ailey became so passionate about dance during his time at the school that he started spending more and more time there. Eventually, he developed his own unique dance style.
In 1958, Ailey created his own dance company called "Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater". After the first two years of touring, many critics wrote about the emergence of a completely new dance style. The company's performances were based on a combination of classical, folk, and avant-garde elements. The vibrant and artistic dancers, who performed in an extraordinary style, quickly became popular among other dance groups.
In 1969, under Ailey's guidance, a dance school was established. The demand to join this school was so high that queues formed of people who wished to be a part of the great choreographer's school. A large number of individuals aspired to study at the school.
Very little is known about Ailey's personal life as he preferred not to discuss it. On December 1, 1989, he passed away. However, his dance company continues to tour and amaze audiences with their extraordinary performances. Ailey's contributions to the world of dance cannot go unnoticed.
