Biography of Lacey Schwimmer

Early Life and Dance Career

Lacey Schwimmer, born on June 28, 1988, in Redlands, California, is an American dancer best known as a finalist on the third season of the reality show "So You Think You Can Dance." She grew up in a Mormon community, with her mother Lori Kaufman and her father Buddy Schwimmer, a successful West Coast swing dancer. Lacey is the younger sister of Benji Schwimmer, who won the second season of "So You Think You Can Dance," and she is also related to actor David Schwimmer from the TV show "Friends." Lacey started dancing and competing at a young age, participating in the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championship in 1995 at the age of seven with her partner Brian Cordoba. At the age of ten, she and her partner Blace Thompson won first place in the young American division of the championship in 1998. Lacey continued to compete in the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championship, climbing the rankings and winning numerous first-place titles.

Professional Dance Career and Reality TV

In January 2003, Lacey began training with her new partner Jared Murillo, known for his work in Disney films. They competed at the junior level and moved up to the adult division in August 2003. Lacey and Jared won the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championship in the youth 18-24 category and also became the national youth Latin dance champions in the United States. Lacey had the opportunity to appear in Christina Aguilera's music video for the song "Candyman," where she showcased her jitterbug skills. She and Jared also had guest roles in the TV show "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" in the episode "Loosely Ballroom."

Lacey auditioned for the third season of "So You Think You Can Dance" with her brother Benji, who had won the previous season. She became one of the top 20 finalists and was partnered with Kameron Bink, excelling in contemporary and hip-hop styles. They received praise for their chemistry and ease of working together. Although they were never in danger of elimination, according to the show's format, the contestants had to switch partners after five weeks. Lacey danced with Danny Tidwell, Neil Haskell, and Pasha Kovalev before being named one of the top four finalists.

Success on "So You Think You Can Dance" and Beyond

Lacey Schwimmer joined the "So You Think You Can Dance" tour in 2007 with other contestants from the third season. She also assisted her brother in choreographing West Coast swing routines for contestants in the fourth season. In August 2008, it was announced on "Good Morning America" that Lacey would be the first "So You Think You Can Dance" alumna to appear as a professional dancer on the seventh season of "Dancing with the Stars," partnering with Lance Bass.

Lacey continued to participate in "Dancing with the Stars" in seasons 8, 9, 11, 12, and 13. During this time, she and fellow "So You Think You Can Dance" alumni Chelsie Hightower and Dmitry Chaplin were the only regulars from the show. She and Lance Bass finished third in the seventh season, and they also toured together in the "Dancing with the Stars" tour. Lacey returned in the eighth season with Steve-O as her partner, and in the ninth season with Mark Dacascos.

In the eleventh season, Lacey teamed up with Disney star Kyle Massey and reached the finals, finishing in second place. In the twelfth season, she danced with radio host Mike Catherwood, but they were eliminated in the first week. In the thirteenth season, Lacey partnered with Chaz Bono, the son of Cher, who had undergone gender reassignment surgery. They were eliminated in October 2011.

Lacey Schwimmer also dabbled in music, recording the single "Red Cup (I Fly Solo)" with the group Cash Cash in 2011. The following year, she recorded the single "Burning Up" with the band It Boys!
