Amadeo Amadei
Amadeo Amadei was an Italian football legend born on July 26, 1921, in Italy. Known for his exceptional goal-scoring abilities, he holds a prominent position among the top scorers in Serie A history, ranking sixth with 188 goals.
Early Career and Roma
Amadei's football journey began at the young age of 15, when he debuted for Roma in the 1936/37 season. He quickly established himself as a prolific forward, setting a national record for the youngest player to score in Serie A. During his time at Roma, which lasted until 1948, Amadei helped the club win the Serie A title in 1942, although the legitimacy of this victory remains questionable due to the ongoing World War II.
Inter Milan and International Debut
Following the war, Amadei moved to Inter Milan, where he was finally recognized for his skill and received a long-awaited call-up to the Italian national team. He made his debut for Italy in 1949 and scored a goal in a match against Spain. Despite his contributions, he only played 13 matches for Italy, scoring 7 goals.
Napoli and Coaching Career
After leaving Inter Milan, Amadei spent six seasons at Napoli before retiring from playing in 1956. Upon completing his coaching courses, he returned to Napoli as their manager and led the team to a respectable fourth-place finish in the 1957/58 season.
Top Scorer and Bread Maker
Despite his impressive goal-scoring record, Amadei never managed to become the leading scorer in the Italian league. Nevertheless, his prowess in front of goal earned him a place among the top 10 all-time scorers in Serie A. After leaving football, Amadei returned to his family's roots and became the owner of a bakery, carrying on the tradition of bread baking that had been a source of livelihood for generations of Amadeis.
