Amanda Pays: Biography
Amanda Pays (born June 6, 1959) is an English actress. She was born in London, England, and is the daughter of actress Joan Pays (Miller) and talent agent and former actor Howard Reginald Pays. In addition, Amanda is the niece of actress Mandy Miller, who starred in the popular 1950s film 'Mandy,' which is the namesake of Amanda.
Early Career
At the age of eight, Amanda first tried her hand at acting in a local production and showcased remarkable abilities for such a young girl. Due to her deep throaty voice, she was often cast in male roles in school plays. Following her mother's advice, Amanda sent her headshot to a modeling agency, which quickly led to a successful modeling career. Over the next four years, she traveled the world.
Transition to Acting
At the age of 22, Amanda grew tired of modeling and decided to pursue acting. Prior to starting her new career, she underwent an intensive course at London's Academy of Live and Recorded Arts. She made her film debut in 1984 in 'Oxford Blues' and gained recognition for her roles as Theora Jones in the film and TV series 'Max Headroom' and as Christina McGee in 'The Flash.' Amanda has also appeared as a guest star in television shows such as 'The X-Files,' 'Nip/Tuck,' and 'Psych.'
Other Endeavors
In addition to her acting career, Amanda is involved in interior design and hosts the television program 'Breathing Room' on the Fine Living channel.
Early Television Roles
Amanda's television debut also occurred in 1984. She played dual roles as Carla Martin and Krista Brunner in the cable film 'The Cold Room,' followed by the role of Sarah in the 1985 miniseries 'A.D.' In 1988, Amanda provided the voiceover for the narrator in the documentary project 'Computer Dreams.' She also appeared in low-budget horror films of the 1980s, such as 'The Kindred' and 'Leviathan.'
Notable Film Role
In 1985, Amanda portrayed Nikki Sauf in the TV movie 'Minder on the Orient Express,' starring alongside Dennis Waterman and George Cole.
