Early Life and Education
Hailing from Uruguay, Diego Tosi began his musical journey as a violinist. In his native country, he studied under esteemed teachers such as Ilya Fidlón (a pupil of Leopold Auer), Israel Horberg, and Jorge Risi. Pursuing further education abroad, he honed his skills in the United States under the guidance of Richard Burgin and in Rome with Alberto Lysy. From 1974 to 1979, Tosi culminated his formal training at the prestigious Moscow Conservatory under the tutelage of Viktor Pikaizen.
International Accolades
Recognition on the world stagecame to Tosi in 1977 when he earned the fourth prize at the prestigious Jacques Thibaud International Violin Competition in Paris.
Orchestral and Ensemble Roles
As a concertmaster, Tosi served as the first concertmaster of the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra from 1980 to 1987. In 1987, he became a member of the Shostakovich Trio, and in 1994, he co-founded the Trio Altenberg, which achieved international acclaim and won numerous awards.
Pedagogical Contributions
Nurturing young talent, Tosi has taught at the Strasbourg Conservatory. As a member of the Trio Altenberg, he conducts master classes in chamber music at the Vienna Conservatory and other esteemed music schools around the world.
