Amy Madigan is an American actress born on September 11, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. She spent her childhood and youth in Chicago, with her parents Dolores Madigan and John Madigan. Her father had a varied career, working as a political scientist, newspaper journalist, radio show host, and lawyer.

Early Education and Career

After completing high school, Amy Madigan moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she became a student at Marquette University. She studied philosophy there. Following her university graduation, Madigan enrolled in the music conservatory at the Chicago College of Performing Arts to learn how to play the piano. Upon completing her studies at the conservatory, she went on to study at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.

In 1970, Amy Madigan moved to Los Angeles, where her career took off quickly. In the same year, she posed for the renowned men's magazine "Playboy." She also formed a band called "Jelly" and used her "Playboy" exposure to promote the group. The band released an album in 1977 called "True Story," which achieved tremendous success and reached the top of the American charts.

Starting in 1982, Madigan began receiving offers for film roles. She made her film debut in 1982 in the movie "Love Child." She went on to appear in films such as the science fiction thriller "The Day After" and the thriller "Love Letters" alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in 1983. In 1984, she starred in the action film "Streets of Fire" with Michael Pare and the drama "Places in the Heart." In 1985, Madigan appeared in the film "Twice in a Lifetime" with Gene Hackman and played the lead role in the drama "Alamo Bay" alongside Ed Harris. Her performance in "Twice in a Lifetime" earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Madigan gained widespread popularity in 1989 after starring alongside Kevin Costner in the film "Field of Dreams." From 2003 to 2005, she appeared in the popular thriller television series "Carnivàle" on HBO, playing the character Iris Crow, the sister of the menacing Preacher Brother Justin Crow, portrayed by Clancy Brown.
