Biography of Ana Reston

Brazilian Beauty Ana Reston was a Brazilian model who, at such a young age, could already be called a veteran of the modeling business. She fell victim to nervous anorexia. Until the end, she did not feel sick, she was on a strict diet, and even her employers did not notice anything suspicious until it was too late.

Early Life and Career

Ana Carolina Reston Macan was born on June 4, 1985, in Jundiaí, Sao Paulo, Brazil, to a middle-class family. Her modeling career began at the age of 13 when she won a local beauty contest in her hometown. She represented several well-known modeling agencies, including 'Ford,' 'Elite,' and 'L'Équipe.' The girl had worked in China, Turkey, Mexico, and Japan. She participated in prestigious advertising campaigns, with her last one being a collaboration with Giorgio Armani.

Battle with Anorexia

In January 2004, Reston embarked on her first trip abroad to the Chinese city of Guangzhou. There, during a casting, she was told that she was "too fat." Those words were enough for the Brazilian model to start struggling with her "excess" weight. Reston intentionally began to refuse food, gradually developing an inaccurate perception of her own appearance. She was diagnosed with nervous anorexia.

At the time of her death, Reston weighed only 40 kg with a height of 1.73 m. She was admitted to the hospital on December 25, 2006. Her kidneys stopped functioning due to anorexia and bulimia. It was revealed that the girl had been on an apple and tomato diet for a long time. Her body mass index was 13.4, while the World Health Organization recognizes those with a BMI of 16 as affected by severe emaciation. Reston's condition worsened, and she exhibited signs of a generalized infection. She passed away at the age of 22.

Tragic End

Miriam, Ana's mother, told the newspaper 'Estado de Sao Paulo': "I noticed that something was wrong when she returned from Japan. She was too thin when she arrived, and when I told her that she should eat something, she said, 'Mom, please, don't fight with me. Nothing bad has happened to me. I'm fine.'"

Reston became the second model in 2006 to die from complications caused by anorexia. On August 2, 2006, Uruguayan model Luisel Ramos died from a heart attack triggered by an eating disorder.
