Soviet Diplomat: Alexander Ivanovich Lavrishchev
Alexander Ivanovich Lavrishchev was a renowned Soviet diplomat and politician. He served as the Soviet Union's Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to various countries, including Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, and Iran.
Early Life and Education
Lavrishchev was born in Moscow in 1908. He graduated from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 1931 and pursued postgraduate studies at the same institution. He subsequently became a lecturer there.
Diplomatic Career
Early Appointments (1938-1941)In 1938, Lavrishchev joined the Ministry of Heavy Industry. In 1939, he became the head of the East European Department of the People's Commissariat of Foreign Affairs (NKID). He then served as the Soviet Plenipotentiary Representative in Bulgaria from 1939 to 1940 and in Romania from 1940 to 1941.
Wartime Roles (1941-1944)
During World War II, Lavrishchev worked as a senior staff member at the Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union (TASS) from 1941 to 1943. He subsequently became the head of the First European Department of the NKID in 1943. From 1943 to 1944, he headed the Middle East Department.
Post-War Appointments (1944-1956)
In 1944, Lavrishchev was appointed the People's Commissioner of Foreign Affairs for the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR). He served in this role until 1946, when he became the Soviet Ambassador to Yugoslavia. He held this position until 1949.
From 1949 to 1951, Lavrishchev served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Soviet Union. He then represented the Soviet Union as Ambassador to Czechoslovakia from 1951 to 1952 and Romania from 1952 to 1953.
Ambassadorship in Iran (1953-1956)
In 1953, Lavrishchev was appointed the Soviet Ambassador to Iran. He served in this capacity until 1956.
Later Years
After his tenure in Iran, Lavrishchev worked at the central office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until his retirement in 1970. He passed away in Moscow in 1984 and was laid to rest in the Vvedenskoye Cemetery.
Awards and Honors
Lavrishchev received numerous awards and honors, including two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor and several medals.
