Christian Schwarz-Schilling, a German diplomat, is considered one of the top experts in the field of BiH problematics. From 1995 to 2004, he held the position of an international mediator between national communities and autonomies in the country.
Appointment as UN Representative in BiH
The new UN representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), German diplomat Christian Schwarz-Schilling, has started his duties. This was officially announced by the press service of the Supreme International Administrator in Sarajevo. He replaced Paddy Ashdown in this position, who ceremoniously handed over the responsibilities to him. Christian Schwarz-Schilling assured "all citizens of BiH and the international community" that he will make every effort to "accelerate the movement of BiH towards Euro-Atlantic integration".

Christian Schwarz-Schilling, 75 years old, is considered one of the top experts in BiH problematics. During this time, he participated in resolving over 200 conflict situations, mainly related to the return of refugees, distribution of humanitarian aid, and the use of infrastructure facilities.
Veteran of the Christian Democratic Union
Christian Schwarz-Schilling is a veteran of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), in which he joined at the age of 20. From 1982 to 1992, he served as the Minister of Post and Telecommunications in the government of Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl, until his voluntary resignation.
