Early Career and Success with Corinthians
Anderson began his professional career in 2000 with Corinthians, spending five seasons with the club. He made 115 appearances and scored three goals. During his time with "Timao," Anderson triumphed in the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup (2000), the Campeonato Paulista (2001), the Rio-São Paulo Tournament (2002), and the Copa do Brasil (2002).
Triumphs with Benfica
On June 2, 2005, Anderson signed for Portuguese club Benfica, making his debut on August 20, 2005, against Académica de Coimbra. He quickly established himself as a regular for "Os Encarnados," forming a formidable central defensive partnership with fellow Brazilian Luisão. With Benfica, Anderson secured the Primeira Liga title in 2005.
Transfer Disputes and Move to Lyon
Anderson departed Benfica in 2007, seeking a position as a left center-back (occupied by Luisão) rather than his usual right center-back role. He initially sought a move to Cruzeiro and even trained with the team for nine days in August 2007. However, Benfica's demand of $3 million for his transfer fee proved too high for Cruzeiro. Lyon, on the other hand, agreed to the sum, which Anderson preferred over Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Injuries and Loan Spells
Anderson made only 12 appearances for Lyon before suffering a torn hamstring in a match against Le Mans in January 2008, sidelining him for the rest of the season. In 2008, he joined São Paulo on loan, followed by a stint with Cruzeiro and a return to Lyon. On August 20, 2010, Anderson and Lyon mutually terminated his contract.
Career Twilight in Brazil
Anderson resumed his career in Brazil in 2011, playing for Santo André (six months) and América Mineiro (one year). In 2012, he moved to Paraná, where he retired from football in late 2013.
International Career
Anderson earned a single cap for the Brazilian national team in a friendly against Guatemala on April 25, 2005, scoring a goal in the fourth minute. Despite his impressive debut, he was not called up to the national team again.
