Early CareerAnderson Polga(born February 9, 1979) is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a central defender. His professional career began at Grêmio in 2001. He enjoyed a successful spell with the club, reaching the semi-finals of the 2002 Copa Libertadores.
Sporting CP and International Debut
In 2003, Polga joined Sporting CP in Portugal.He quickly became a regular starter and a key figure in the team's defense. He made his international debut for Brazil in 2002, scoring a goal in a 6-0 friendly win over Bolivia. He also represented his country at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, playing in two group stage matches.
Captaincy and European Success
Polga was named vice-captain of Sporting CP in 2007.He helped the team win two Portuguese Cup titles (2006/07 and 2007/08) and two Portuguese Super Cup titles (2007 and 2008). Despite being a regular in European competitions, Polga missed the 2004/05 UEFA Cup Final.
Return to Brazil and Club World Cup
Polga returned to Brazil in 2012 to join Corinthians.He played a limited role in the team's victorious Copa Libertadores campaign, but was still part of the squad that won the FIFA Club World Cup that year.
