Early Life and Football Career
Eduardo da Silva, a Brazilian-born Croatian footballer, began his footballing journey at the youth club Nova Kennedy in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro. In 1998, at the age of 15, his family relocated to Zagreb, where he joined the renowned Dinamo Zagreb football academy.
Dinamo Zagreb and Croatian Success
At Dinamo Zagreb, Eduardo's talent blossomed. He was loaned to NK Inter Zapresic for the 2002-03 season, scoring 10 goals in 15 appearances. Upon his return, he established himself as a key player for Dinamo, winning two Croatian league titles, a Croatian Cup, and a Croatian Super Cup. In 2004, 2006, and 2007, he was crowned Croatian Player of the Year.
Arsenal Years
In July 2007, Eduardo made a high-profile move to Arsenal for £7.5 million. After an auspicious start, he suffered a horrific leg break in a match against Birmingham City in February 2008. After a year-long absence, he returned to the pitch with a bang, scoring a brace in the FA Cup against Cardiff City in February 2009. However, another setback in a pre-season match against Celtic led to a diving accusation and a subsequent two-match European ban, which was later overturned.
Shakhtar Donetsk
In July 2010, Eduardo joined Shakhtar Donetsk for an undisclosed fee. He made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut against Sevastopol and becoming the team's top scorer in his first season. With Shakhtar, Eduardo won two Ukrainian league titles, two Ukrainian Cups, and a Ukrainian Super Cup. He also netted three goals in two matches against former club Dinamo Kyiv.
International Career
Eduardo made his international debut for Croatia in 2004 and has since represented his adopted country at two FIFA World Cups and two UEFA European Championships. He has scored 29 goals for the Croatian national team.
