André Jaunet: Swiss Flutist and Educator
Early Life and EducationAndré Jaunet, a Swiss flutist and music pedagogue of French descent, was born in Paris. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire under Marcel Moyse and Philippe Gaubert.
Orchestra Career
Upon graduating from the Paris Conservatoire in 1931, Jaunet held the post of principal flutist in the Lille Opera, Winterthur City Orchestra, and Bern Symphony Orchestra. From 1938 to 1978, he was the principal flutist of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra and concurrently taught at the Zurich Conservatory.
International Recognition
In 1939, Jaunet became one of the inaugural laureates of the International Competition for Musical Performers in Geneva. His international renown grew, leading to guest performances and masterclasses worldwide.
Teaching Legacy
From 1973 onward, Jaunet also served as a guest professor at the Freiburg University of Music. His renowned pupils include Aurèle Nicolet, Peter-Lukas Graf, and Emmanuel Pahud.
Chamber Music and Specialization
Jaunet was also an active chamber musician, performing with the Zurich Wind Quintet and other ensembles. He was particularly known for his expertise in baroque music and played with ensembles specializing in this repertoire.
