André-Marie-Constant Duméril
Early Life and EducationAndré-Marie-Constant Duméril was born in Amiens, France, in 1774. He initially pursued a medical education, becoming a prosector in Rouen and later heading anatomical studies at the medical school in Paris.
Academic Career
In 1803, Duméril was appointed Professor of Anatomy and Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine in Paris. He later established the Chair of Amphibiology and Ichthyology at the Jardin des Plantes, where he remained a professor until his passing.
Scientific Contributions
Duméril's research and writings made significant contributions to zoology. He is known for classifying numerous biological species, including reptiles, amphibians, and fish. He also conducted comprehensive studies on comparative anatomy and embryology.
Legacy
