Early Life and EducationAndré Téchiné was born in Valençay d'Agen, a small town in the French Pyrenees. His Spanish family ran a modest agricultural equipment business. From 1952 to 1959, he attended a Catholic boarding school in Montauban, where Sunday excursions to the cinema ignited his cinematic passion. After studying at a secular public school, Téchiné left for Paris at 19 to pursue filmmaking.

Early Career
Téchiné worked at the influential French film journal Cahiers du Cinéma, a hub for the French New Wave directors. He also taught at the IDHEC film school and assisted Jacques Rivette on several projects.
