Biography of Andrea Pininfarina
Andrea Pininfarina was an Italian engineer and CEO of the renowned Italian company Carrozzeria Pininfarina. He was born in Turin, Italy and was the son of Sergio Pininfarina, the former CEO of the same company. Andrea's grandfather, Battista Farina, founded the company in 1930 and it continues to be managed by his descendants.
Early Career
Andrea Pininfarina graduated from the Polytechnic of Turin in 1981 with a degree in mechanical engineering. The following year, he began working for the American corporation Fruehauf. In 1983, Andrea joined his family's company and was involved in one of its last projects, the Cadillac Allante.
Leadership in Carrozzeria Pininfarina
Due to the solid reputation established by Battista and Sergio Pininfarina, Andrea was entrusted with the company's management. In 1987, he was promoted to co-managing director and in 1988, he became the full-fledged CEO. In 1994, Andrea became the managing director, and in 2001, he was appointed as the new CEO.
Contributions and Recognition
In addition to his role at Carrozzeria Pininfarina, Andrea Pininfarina served as the vice president of the Italian industrial group Confindustria for some time. In 2004, Businessweek named him one of the "25 Stars of Europe" and recognized him as an outstanding innovator. In 2005, he received the Eurostar 2005 award from The Automotive News Europe, which is given to top-level managers who have excelled in the automotive industry.
Tragic Death
On August 7, 2008, Andrea Pininfarina tragically died in a road accident near the headquarters of the company in Cambiano, near Turin. In thick fog, he failed to notice a car that had pulled out from behind a parked truck. The driver of the other car was 78 years old and unfortunately, there was not enough time for him to react appropriately. Andrea Pininfarina was only 51 years old at the time of his death, and his passing was a great tragedy for his entire family.
