Biography of Andreas Wahl

Andreas Wahl, a Norwegian physicist, is known as a "stuntman in the world of science" for his daring experiments. He has a unique approach to demonstrating the fundamental properties of physics by putting himself in risky situations.

Andreas Wahl

The Gravity Experiment

One of Wahl's experiments involved attaching himself to a pipe protruding from a building at a height of nearly 14 meters above the ground. He used a cable with a weight attached to it to prevent him from falling. The weight was initially attached to the building, and when his colleagues released it, Wahl began to fall towards the ground. This experiment demonstrated the principle of centripetal force, which causes an object to move in a curved path. As the weight fell, it started to swing like a pendulum due to the tension in the cable. Eventually, the cable wrapped around the pipe, stopping Wahl's fall just a few meters above the ground. Despite the apparent riskiness of the experiment, it was actually safe because of the fundamental properties of physics at play.

The Underwater Gun Experiment

In another daring experiment, Wahl shot himself underwater using a gun mounted on a tripod. He positioned himself a few meters away from the gun at the bottom of a pool, and by pulling a rope attached to the trigger, he made the gun fire. However, since water is denser than air, the speed of the bullet rapidly decreased upon entering the water. As a result, the bullet did not reach him, and Wahl remained unharmed.

These experiments performed by Andreas Wahl have provided valuable insights into the laws of nature and have given new meaning to scenes in movies where characters try to escape bullets by jumping into water. Wahl's unique approach to demonstrating physics principles using his own body has made him a popular figure in the scientific community and beyond.
