Andreas Wellinger is a German ski jumper from Ruhpolding, Germany. He was born on August 28, 1995. Wellinger is a two-time Olympic champion, having won the gold medal in ski jumping at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Early Career

Wellinger made his World Cup debut on November 24, 2012, in Trondheim, Norway. Although he initially led after the first round, he ultimately finished in fifth place. In the same year, he won team competitions on the large hill and achieved podium finishes in individual events in Sochi and Engelberg. He ended his first season in the World Cup in 20th place overall.

In the summer of 2013, Wellinger won the Summer Grand Prix, beating his closest competitor, Erney Damjan, by 21 points. The following year, he achieved further success at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where he won the team gold medal alongside Severin Freund, Marinus Kraus, and Andreas Wank. In the individual events, Wellinger finished 45th on the large hill and 6th on the normal hill.

In January 2016, Wellinger won a silver medal in the team event at the Ski Flying World Championships. On March 18, 2017, in Vikersund, Wellinger set a new national record for Germany with a jump of 245 meters. However, this record was soon broken by Markus Eisenbichler on March 25, 2017, with a jump of 248 meters.
