Manuel Fettner: From Unknown to World Champion

Early Career and Struggles

Manuel Fettner, a renowned Austrian ski jumper, first entered the World Cup circuit in 2001. However, his initial years were marked by limited success and sparse top-ten finishes. He often found himself relegated to the sidelines of Austria's formidable national team.

Triumph at the 2013 World Championships

Fate took a turn at the 2013 FIS Nordic Ski World Championships in Val di Fiemme, Italy. With top Austrian jumpers Martin Koch and Andreas Kofler sidelined, Fettner unexpectedly joined forces with Thomas Morgenstern, Wolfgang Loitzl, and Gregor Schlierenzauer.

In the team competition, Fettner's moment of glory arrived. His impressive jump of 128 meters in the second round was marred by an awkward landing, causing one of his skis to detach. Undeterred, Fettner's quick reaction and poise prevented a fall. Although his technical scores suffered slightly, Austria's dominant performance secured the team's victory.

Rising Star in Oberstdorf

Fettner's breakout moment came during the 2010/2011 Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf. Placing third, he earned the title of "Man of the Day." His subsequent World Cup appearances yielded a single podium finish, a third-place result on an HS134 hill.
