Andrew Kuchins

Early Life and Education

Andrew Kuchins graduated from Amherst College and the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.

Career in Academia

From 1989 to 1993, Kuchins served as the Executive Director of the University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University's Program on Soviet and Post-Soviet Studies. From 1997 to 2000, he was the Deputy Director of the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University.

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

From 2000 to 2003, Kuchins headed the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace's Russian and Eurasian Program. From 2003 to 2006, he was the Director of the Carnegie Moscow Center.

John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation

From 1993 to 1997, Kuchins was a Senior Fellow at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Research and Publications

Kuchins has conducted extensive research and published extensively on Russian foreign policy and security issues. He has edited numerous books, including "Russia After the Breakup" (2002) and "Russia and Japan: The Unresolved Dilemma of Distant Neighbors" (1993).
