Biography of Andrew Lincoln

Andrew James Clutterbuck, better known as Andrew Lincoln, is an English actor who has achieved success in film, television, and theatre. Born in London, Lincoln is the son of an English engineer and a South African nurse. His family moved to Hull when he was 18 and later settled in Bath when he was 8 or 9 years old.

Early Career

Lincoln's first experience in acting was during school, where he played the Artful Dodger in a production of "Oliver!". He solidified his desire to become a professional actor after spending a summer at the National Youth Theatre of London. Following his schooling, Lincoln attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he adopted the stage name "Andrew Lincoln."

Television and Film Success

In 1994, Lincoln made his television debut in an episode of the comedy series "Drop the Dead Donkey." Shortly after completing his studies, he landed his first major role as Edgar "Egg" Cook in the series "This Life." This marked the beginning of his successful television career, with notable roles in projects such as "The Woman in White," "The Canterbury Tales," and "Wuthering Heights." He gained widespread recognition for his role as Simon Casey in the comedy series "Teachers." Lincoln also showcased his talent on the big screen, appearing in films like "Human Traffic," "Gangster No. 1," and "Heartbreaker" alongside Vanessa Paradis. However, he became particularly well-known for his portrayal of Mark in the 2003 film "Love Actually."

The Walking Dead

In 2010, Lincoln gained significant fame for his role as Rick Grimes in the television series adaptation of the popular comic book series "The Walking Dead." The character of Rick Grimes is a former sheriff's deputy who wakes up from a coma to find himself in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Rick becomes the leader of a group of survivors, facing not only the threat of the undead but also the dangers posed by other humans. The show became a massive success, breaking ratings records for cable television. Lincoln signed a contract in 2010 allowing him to continue starring in the series for the next six years. He received Saturn Award nominations for Best Television Actor in 2011 and 2013, ultimately winning the award in 2015. He was also awarded the Favorite Cable TV Anti-Hero at the People's Choice Awards.

Personal Life

Andrew Lincoln is married to Gael Anderson, the daughter of Jethro Tull vocalist Ian Anderson. They have two children together. At their wedding, their flower girl was Apple Martin, the daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin. Lincoln's older brother, Richard Clutterbuck, currently heads a school in Bristol.
