Andrei Akopyants is a renowned Uzbek footballer who made his mark as a talented midfielder both in his home country and internationally.

Early Career and Rise to Prominence

Born and raised in Uzbekistan, Akopyants honed his footballing skills from a young age. His impressive performances earned him a place in the prestigious Uzbekistani youth academy. After graduating, he joined Pakhtakor Tashkent, where he spent four seasons, claiming the Uzbekistani Premier League title and the Uzbekistan Cup. His exceptional abilities were recognized in 1999 when he was crowned the Uzbekistani Footballer of the Year.

Transition to Russian Football

In 2000, Akopyants seized the opportunity to join a Russian club. Despite interest from Krylia Sovetov Samara and Zenit Saint Petersburg, he ultimately signed with Rostselmash Rostov-on-Don. During his tenure with Rostov, he amassed over 120 appearances in both league and cup competitions.

Changing Teams and International Representation

In 2006, Akopyants departed Rostov and joined Chernomorets Novorossiysk, where he showcased his goal-scoring prowess with a record-breaking 15 goals. He later spent brief periods at FK Daugava Riga and FK Daugava Daugavpils in Latvia before returning to Pakhtakor Tashkent in 2008, where he became the Uzbekistani Premier League runner-up.

From 1998 to 2005, Akopyants was a mainstay in the Uzbekistani national football team. He represented his country in 40 international matches, contributing six goals to their efforts on the international stage.

Later Career and Retirement

In 2009, Akopyants joined Dinamo Samarqand before moving to FC Nizhny Novgorod in Latvia. As his career drew to a close, he returned to his roots with Pakhtakor Tashkent, where he retired in 2012.
