During the 1990s, Kruz engaged in private entrepreneurship. He was the CEO of the company "Education, Science, Production" in the early 2000s. Kruz currently resides in Marbella, Spain, where he and his wife jointly own gun stores and a shooting club.

In January 2016, Kruz was arrested by the Spanish police based on a request from Russian law enforcement authorities. He was accused of fraud in relation to real estate development in the early 2000s. The charges were brought by Olga Platonova, a television presenter from the show "Fazenda" and one of the deceived shareholders. Platonova hired private detectives to investigate the case. It is worth noting that Kruz filed a counter-statement with the police regarding threats to his family from Platonova. He also reported a criminal case of document forgery by a court bailiff at her request, which was aimed at seizing his disputed house in Moscow. Kruz spent 12 days in a Spanish prison and was released on bail.
