Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany

Early Life and Education

Born in Western Ukraine, Andrii Melnyk pursued international relations and German translation at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, graduating in 1997. He furthered his studies in Sweden, obtaining a master's degree in international law from Lund University. Melnyk also completed a fellowship at Harvard University.

Diplomatic Career

Melnyk embarked on his diplomatic journey in 1997 as a senior consultant within the Ukrainian Presidential Administration's Foreign Policy Department. From 1999 to 2003, he served as a second and first secretary at the Ukrainian Embassy in Austria.

Upon his return to Ukraine, Melnyk held various positions, including chief consultant for the Presidential Administration's Foreign Policy Department and deputy director and head of department within the Presidential Secretariat's Foreign Policy Department.

Consular and Diplomatic Roles

From 2007 to 2010, Melnyk assumed the role of Ukraine's consul general in Hamburg, Germany. He subsequently became director of the Third Territorial Department within the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving from 2010 to 2014.

Government and Ambassadorial Appointment

In 2014, Melnyk was appointed deputy Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. In 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. He has since served as Ukraine's Ambassador to Germany.

Honors and Family

Ambassador Melnyk was awarded the Order of Merit, 2nd degree, in 2020. He is married with a son and a daughter.
