Early Life and Education

Born and raised in Leningrad, Andrei Tolshin pursued his passion for the arts by enrolling in the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music, and Cinematography. He graduated in 1980, earning a degree in acting.

Theatrical Career

Upon graduating, Tolshin was invited to join the Moscow Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin. In 1982, he transferred to the Leningrad Academic Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin (now known as the Alexandrinsky Theater). Tolshin made his film debut the same year.

Film Breakthrough

Tolshin's breakout role came in Leonid Gaidai's celebrated comedy "Sportloto-82" (1982). He played Mikhail Golubev, a fellow traveler who possessed the winning lottery ticket. Another notable film appearance was as the waiter Chumak in Valery Priemykhov's detective drama "Pants" (1989).

Theater Engagement at the Akimov Comedy Theater

Since 1995, Tolshin has been a member of the Akimov Comedy Theater. His notable performances include Canon Chasuble in "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde, Mr. Frank in "Country Wife," and Caesar Borgia in Eugene Schwartz's "The Shadow."

Pedagogical and Academic Achievements

In 1993, Tolshin completed his postgraduate studies at the St. Petersburg State Academy of Theatrical Arts. He was subsequently invited to teach acting at the studio of Professor Vladimir Petrov. In 1999, he underwent a pedagogical and directorial internship at the Dramatic Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He also trained at the Theater Academy of Stockholm and Malmö (a branch of Lund University). Following his internship, Tolshin earned a certificate from the Dramatic Institute. In 2001, he defended his dissertation on "Improvisation in the Process of Actor Education," earning a Ph.D. in art history.

Conference and Master Class Contributions

Tolshin actively participates in symposia, conferences, and workshops. He has conducted master classes and authored numerous articles and methodological recommendations on the subject of acting.

Film and Television Appearances

Tolshin has made sparse film appearances since the 1990s. His notable roles include episodic parts in popular television series such as "Gangster Petersburg" and "Gluhar."
