Biography of Jonathan Cake
Jonathan Cake was born in the English town of Worthing and was the youngest of three sons in his family. At the age of four, he first tasted the craft of acting when he was invited on stage during a pantomime at a children's celebration. The experience was enjoyable for Cake, and he never doubted his choice of profession thereafter. By the age of eight, Jonathan was involved in dramatic arts and regularly performed in plays. As a teenager, he toured all over England with the National Youth Theatre.
Education and Early Career
Jonathan Cake later enrolled in the prestigious University of Cambridge, where he studied English language. During his time at Cambridge, he also played rugby and had the opportunity to perform in front of a seventy-thousand-strong audience in a match against Oxford. In 1989, Jonathan graduated from Cambridge and entered the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where he spent the next two years honing his skills. He then further refined his craft at the Royal Shakespeare Company, appearing in productions such as "Wallenstein," "Tamburlaine," "The Odyssey," "As You Like It," and "Beggar's Opera."
Acting Success
In 2002, Jonathan Cake's honed talent earned him the Barclays Award for Best Actor for his performance in the play "Baby Doll" by Tennessee Williams, staged first at the Royal National Theatre and later in London's West End. The following year, he made his Broadway debut in the lead role of Jason in "Medea." Cake has also appeared in numerous television projects, such as the American drama "Invasion," the telefilm "Noah's Ark," the series "From the Ashes" and "Marriage." In 2005, he portrayed Tyrannus in the six-hour epic "Empire." In the UK, Cake starred in films such as "Jump," "Cows," "Rebecca," "The Secret Life of Mrs. Beeton," "The Girl," the telefilm "Riverworld," and feature films "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Honest," and "The Last Truth."

Jonathan Cake is widely recognized for his role as Sir Gawain in the film "First Knight" alongside Sean Connery and Richard Gere. Some of his recent projects include the films "Krews" (2009) and "Brideshead Revisited" (2008), as well as the series "Captain Cook's Extraordinary Atlas" (2009) and "Chuck" (2007-2009). In his personal life, Jonathan Cake is married and splits his time between two homes in London, England and Venice, California, in the United States.
