Early Life and Education
Eugene Zgursky was born in Ukraine to screenwriter Yevgeny Zgursky. He graduated from the Kyiv State Institute of Theatrical Art named after Karpenko-Kary in Ukraine, where he studied film directing under the guidance of Abram Narodetsky.
Career in Ukraine
From 1981 to 1988, Zgursky worked as a director for the Kyiv Research and Documentary Film Studio (Kyivnauchfilm). Subsequently, from 1988 to 1992, he directed films for the independent film studio "Thursday." In 1990, he was elected as Secretary of the Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine.
Immigration to the United States
Zgursky immigrated to the United States in 1992. He began teaching at The New School in New York and received a Rockefeller Fellowship in 1994.
AZ Films and Radio Contributions
In 1996, Zgursky founded the independent studio AZ Films L.L.C. Since 2005, he has hosted a film review segment on Alexander Genis' radio program "American Hour" on Radio Liberty.
Literary Participation
Zgursky participated in a theatrical online reading of Anton Chekhov's works at the Grolier Club in New York in 2015.
