Biography of Andy Christian Soucek

Andy Christian Soucek is a Spanish racing driver who was born in Spain and spent most of his life there. He holds both Austrian and Spanish citizenship and competes under the Spanish flag because he considers himself to be Spanish.

Early Career

Soucek began his racing career in karting in 1997. After competing in the Portuguese Formula Ford, he was unable to make his debut in formula racing in 2001. He continued karting in 2002 before moving on to the Spanish Formula 3. In 2003, he stopped karting and joined the EV team. He continued racing for EV in the 2004 season but also competed in two races for the GTA team.

Success in Formula Racing

The year 2005 was a turning point for Soucek as he joined the Llusia team and won the championship in the Spanish Formula 3. After participating in the 2006 World Series by Renault, Soucek signed a contract with the DPR GP2 team for the 2007 season. He also took part in the first round of the 2008 GP2 Asia season but was excluded from the team after signing a contract with the rival FMS International team for the main series. However, just five days before the start of the 2008 season, FMS International unilaterally terminated Soucek's contract and replaced him with another Spanish driver, Roldan Rodriguez. Despite this setback, Soucek returned to the series later in the season, replacing the injured Christian Bakkerud in the Super Nova team. He then returned to DPR after two races for Super Nova, replacing Giacomo Ricci, who had temporarily replaced the injured Michael Herck. Soucek earned his first championship point with DPR and achieved several finishes in the points zone. He also shared the title of best Spanish driver with Roldan Rodriguez, and stood on the podium once at the Hungaroring circuit.

Superleague Formula and Formula 2

In addition to his involvement in GP2, Soucek also competed for the Brazilian football club "Corinthians" (managed by the EuroInternational group) in the debut race of the Superleague Formula series. He then signed a contract with "Atletico Madrid" for the remainder of the season. Soucek's sponsors include Knight Frank and Interwetten. In 2009, Soucek joined the revived FIA Formula 2 series. He achieved a total of seven victories in the 2009 season, securing the championship with 115 points, compared to the second-place Robert Wickens with 64 points.

Formula 1 Test Driver

On February 23, 2010, it was announced that Soucek would become a test driver for the Formula 1 team "Virgin Racing".
