Biography of Sebastian Hohenthal
IntroductionSebastian Hohenthal is a Swedish racing driver of Armenian descent. He has achieved success in various motorsport series, including the British Formula Renault and Formula 3 championships.
Karting Career
Hohenthal began his karting career in 1995 and competed until 2000. During this period, he won several championships, including the Dalacupen Formula Micro in 1996, Tom Trana Trophy ICA Junior in 1999, and the Scandinavian and Swedish championships in ICA Junior in 2000.
Transition to Formula Racing
In 2001, Hohenthal made the transition to formula racing and participated in the Swedish and Scandinavian Formula Ford championships. He achieved significant success in 2003, winning multiple titles as a part of rally driver Stig Blomqvist's team. In the same year, he joined Nexa Racing in the British racing scene.
British Formula Ford
Hohenthal's first racing series with Nexa Racing was the British Formula Ford Winter Series, where he claimed victory. This success propelled him to compete in the main series, where he finished third overall. He also finished in the same position at the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch, setting the fastest lap.
British Formula Renault
In 2005, Hohenthal joined Fortec Motorsport for the British Formula Renault championship. He concluded his first season in fourth place and went on to secure the championship title in the following season. Throughout the season, he earned five pole positions and won seven out of the 20 races. He also participated in one round of the Asian Formula Renault in 2006.
British Formula 3
Continuing his partnership with Fortec, Hohenthal competed in the British Formula 3 championship in 2007. He achieved victory at Brands Hatch and secured a pole position at Thruxton, finishing ninth overall in the championship. He continued racing for Fortec in the 2008 season, winning a race at Rockingham, but ultimately left the series after the round in Spa and did not contend for the title.
FIA Formula 2
In 2009, Hohenthal signed a contract to compete in the revived FIA Formula 2 championship. He drove car number 2, just like his compatriot Ronnie Peterson, who won the championship in 1971.
