Early Life and Education
Angel Marin was born in the town of Batak, Pazardzhik District. He completed his secondary education at the gymnasium in Devin in 1960. He then pursued higher education in military sciences, graduating from the Higher Military Artillery School in Shumen with a specialization in anti-aircraft artillery in 1965.
Subsequently, Marin obtained a degree in radio engineering from the Vasil Levski National Military University in 1965. He continued his studies in the Soviet Union, graduating with a gold medal from the Leningrad Higher Artillery Academy in 1978.
Military Career
In 1965, Marin joined the missile forces of the Bulgarian army. From 1990 to 1998, he served as the commander of the Missile Forces and Artillery of the Bulgarian army's Ground Forces. He retired from the military in 1998 due to disagreements with the military reforms being implemented.
In 1991, Marin was promoted to the rank of Major General in the Bulgarian army.
Political Career
In the 2001 presidential elections, Angel Marin was elected Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria alongside President Georgi Parvanov. In 2006, Parvanov and Marin were re-elected to a second term as candidates of the Bulgarian Socialist Party.
Honors and Recognition
Marin is an honorary citizen of the towns of Batak and Smolensk (since 2003). He is also the author of the book "The Last War" ("Последната война").
Family Life
Angel Marin is married to Stanka Marina. They have a son, Simeon Marin, and a daughter, Stoyana Marina. They also have two granddaughters.
