Biography of Michel Danet
Michel Danet, the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), was born on June 13, 1941, in Oran, Algeria. He graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Paris and is a Knight of the Legion of Honour.
Early Career
Michel Danet began his service in the customs administration of France in 1963. He worked in various positions within the organization, gaining valuable experience and expertise in customs matters.
Leadership Roles
In 1982, Danet took on the role of leading the Committee on Combating Smuggling at the WCO. He held this position for several years, from 1987 to 1992, during which he also served as the Director of the Information and Communication Department, Deputy Head of the WCO Delegation, Head of the Policy Commission, and Chair of the Finance Committee.
Deputy Director and International Cooperation
In 1992, Danet was appointed Deputy Director for Relations with the Customs Union and International Cooperation at the Directorate General of Customs and Indirect Taxes in France. During his time in this role, he played a pivotal role in strengthening ties with the Customs Union and enhancing international cooperation.
Secretary General of WCO
Since 1999, Michel Danet has held the position of Secretary General of the World Customs Organization.
