Biography of Angel Sangino
Angel Sangino is a Venezuelan electronics engineer from Caracas, Venezuela, who lost his left hand in a motorcycle accident in 2012. Faced with the challenge of finding a suitable prosthesis, Angel took matters into his own hands and developed one himself. His ingenuity and determination earned him recognition and a prize in the field of science, technology, and innovation.

An Unfortunate Accident
At the age of 33, Angel Sangino became a victim of a street racing incident in 2012. As a result of the accident, Angel suffered serious internal injuries and multiple fractures, forcing doctors to amputate his left hand. This was devastating for Sangino, a talented radio electronics specialist, as it jeopardized his ability to continue his work and support his growing family.

Ambition and Innovation
Despite the advice of doctors to accept his reality and adjust, Angel Sangino had other plans. After recovering from his injuries and spending time in the intensive care unit, he began working on his own prosthetic hand just three months later. With the help of his uncle, orthopedic specialist Brunel Rodriguez, they created a truly ingenious manipulator controlled by the movement of the clavicle.

A Brilliant Partnership
The collaboration between orthopedic specialist Rodriguez and electronics engineer Sangino proved to be outstanding. Sangino equipped the prosthesis provided by Rodriguez with electronic devices tailored to his specific needs. Although the resulting prosthesis was not aesthetically pleasing, it proved to be remarkably functional, fully replacing Sangino's lost hand. The artificial hand features lighting, a clamp, a magnifying glass, and is powered by a small motor connected to a battery.

Empowering Others
While Sangino initially developed the prosthesis for himself, he is willing to replicate this experience and create prosthetics for others in the future. The high-tech prosthesis currently costs around 90,000 bolivars (approximately $14,500), which is beyond the reach of the average person in Venezuela. To make it more affordable, Sangino used inexpensive domestic materials, significantly reducing the cost. He plans to offer prosthetics for potential future clients priced at $1,000. Additionally, Sangino aims to develop a high-tech pediatric wheelchair to gift to a child in need.
Overall, Angel Sangino's determination, innovation, and commitment to helping others have made him a role model for both those in need of prosthetics and the field of science and technology.
