Biography of Angelina Vovk

Angelina Vovk is a beloved television presenter and one of the most charming announcers of Soviet TV. She is a star of popular TV shows and a favorite among several generations of children. With her beauty, charisma, talent, energy, optimism, and zest for life, it's no wonder she has gained recognition as an Honored Artist of the RSFSR and a People's Artist of the Russian Federation.

Although she could have pursued a career as a flight attendant and even completed a few trial flights, Angelina's true calling became television, to which she is devoted wholeheartedly. Born in the city of Tulun, in the difficult years of the Great Patriotic War, Angelina Mikhailovna Vovk grew up in Irkutsk. Her father, a fighter pilot, did not return home from the war, leaving her mother, Maria Kuzminichna Vovk, to raise Angelina and her siblings.

After her husband's death in 1944, Angelina's mother moved the family to Moscow, where she worked as an accountant at Vnukovo Airport. Angelina attended school in the same neighborhood and had many friends with whom she fantasized about their future professions. From stewardess to singer, ballerina to doctor, Angelina dreamed of trying it all. She joined various clubs, engaged in sports, and took dance lessons.

One day, Angelina became interested in a drama club. The confident and beautiful girl, who was also a natural blonde, enjoyed performing in front of an audience. She joined a drama studio at one of the pioneer palaces, which seemed like the path to becoming an actress. In her senior years of school, Vovk participated in a talent contest at Shabolovka, where they were selecting girls and boys for a television project. Although she successfully passed the first round, she failed the second round by choosing a challenging monologue from "Quiet Flows the Don." However, this small setback did not dampen the optimistic schoolgirl.

In addition to her love for television and the spotlight, Angelina was also passionate about the English language and aspired to study it at the Institute of Foreign Languages. To guarantee admission to the prestigious university, she attended preparatory courses. One day, returning from her classes, she saw an advertisement for auditions at GITIS (Russian University of Theatre Arts) and decided to try her luck. With ease, Angelina Mikhailovna was accepted into the acting department of the renowned institution, where she studied under the tutelage of Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko's students.

During her time at the institute, Vovk remained true to herself, exploring new interests alongside acting. She worked as a model at the House of Models and appeared in the film "Farewell" in 1966. She also enrolled in a directing course at the Institute for Advanced Training of Television and Radio Workers, learning the intricacies of television directing for a year.

However, during her summer internship at Shabolovka, Angelina realized that television directing was not the right fit for her. Nevertheless, she fell in love with being in the television center, particularly the opportunity to appear on the screens of millions of Soviet citizens. Angelina enrolled in announcer courses and, upon completion, was hired by the Central Television of the Soviet Union in the announcer department.

As a newcomer, she was immediately assigned the responsibility of reading news. However, Angelina struggled with poor eyesight, which made reading from a script difficult. Her biggest challenge was maintaining a serious face, constantly suppressing laughter. As a naturally cheerful and vivacious person, it was not easy for her to deliver propaganda messages and news updates in a neutral or solemn tone. Her light-hearted approach could have led to her dismissal.

In order to retain her place on television, to which Angelina Mikhailovna was deeply attached, she gave up her position as an announcer and started hosting various programs. She became known to children as Aunt Lina in "Budilnik" and "Good Night, Little Ones!" Adults and the elderly loved her elegant hosting in "Morning Mail," "Musical Kiosk," and later "Song of the Year." Vovk hosted concerts, festivals, music, and creative competitions, becoming one of the main and most recognizable stars of Soviet and Russian television.

However, due to the lack of celebrity interviews during that time, the public relied on rumors and gossip to learn more about their beloved TV personalities. Whenever a man and a woman co-hosted a program, the audience immediately speculated about their relationship. Angelina's first love, Gennady Chertov, was indeed connected to TV, working as an announcer. They met at GITIS and got married shortly before graduating. Their marriage lasted 16 years.

Her second husband was Czech artist and architect Jindřich Heč. The couple lived in different countries, and the constant separation took a toll on their relationship. After 13 years of practically separate lives, they divorced, seeing each other only a couple of times a year.

Today, Angelina considers her nephew, his wife, and their daughters as her family, whom she adores. She continues to host programs and talk shows on various channels. Just as in her youth, she remains active in sports, skiing in the mountains since the age of 60 and enjoying swimming in icy water and pools.
