In July 2024, after viewing images from the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, Giuliano made a public request for political asylum in Russia via his social media account. This request stemmed from his objections to the performances involving French drag artists, which he saw as undermining gender identity and the LGBTQ+ community. In an interview with Sport24, Giuliano expressed his belief that there are many individuals in Europe who share his disapproval of the blurring of gender boundaries but lack the freedom to express it openly. He views Russia as a potential haven for those who hold traditional values like family, religion, and conservatism.
Collaboration with Sputnik International
Following his public request, Sputnik International extended an invitation to Giuliano to join their team. The editors acknowledged his post and proposed that they "stand against this Western 'shit show' together." Giuliano responded enthusiastically, declaring, "Let's do it!"
While Giuliano has not yet formally applied for asylum in Russia, he has indicated his intention to do so when possible. He has no plans to return to Italy and has expressed his desire to provide his son with a healthier upbringing outside Europe.
