Anisya Kirdyapkina: A Dedicated Race Walker from Mordovia

Early Life and Introduction to Race Walking

Anisya Kirdyapkina, born Anisya Kornikova in Saransk, Mordovia, is a highly accomplished Russian race walker. She began her journey in the sport at the age of nine, when she met renowned coach Konstantin Nacharkin and was inspired by his offer to try race walking. While her companions quickly lost interest, Anisya proved to be a persistent and determined athlete.

Achievements and International Success

In 2007, still competing as a junior, Kirdyapkina established herself with victories in the Russian Winter Championships, the European Cup Race Walking, and the European Junior Championships, all in the 10-kilometer distance. Her international debut at the European Cup resulted in a medal, further motivating her to excel.

World Record and Personal Challenges

Kirdyapkina continued to make strides, setting a junior world record in the 20-kilometer walk in 2008. However, she also faced setbacks, including a technical disqualification that year. Undeterred, she focused on improving her technique, resulting in an impressive 2009 and 2010 season.

Olympic and World Championships Medalist

In 2012, Kirdyapkina qualified for the Russian Olympic team, finishing fifth in that year's games. She made up for it in 2013, capturing gold at the Kazan World Summer Universiade and silver at the Moscow World Championships.

Personal Life and Family

While still a junior, Anisya met Sergei Kirdyapkina, a talented race walker. Over time, their friendship blossomed into a romance and they eventually married. Despite initial concerns from coaches, Kirdyapkina's marriage did not hinder her athletic achievements.

Influences and Inspirations

Kirdyapkina drew inspiration from Russian race walker Irina Stankina, as well as other renowned athletes from Mordovia. Her husband, Sergei Kirdyapkina, became a close friend and mentor, providing support throughout her career.
