Early Life and Family
Anita Loos was born Anita Loos Corrine in Sisson, California (now Mount Shasta) on April 26, 1889. Her father, Richard Beers Loos, was a journalist and owned a newspaper, while her mother, Minerva "Minnie" Smith, played a significant role in the paper's publishing operations. Anita had two older brothers, one of whom later became the founder of a medical institution.
Relocation to San Francisco
In 1892, the family relocated to San Francisco, where Richard Beers Loos used funds borrowed from his father-in-law to purchase the newspaper "Dramatic Events."
